Oilpaintings from Bages
The fishermen from Bages catch eel and green crab in a bay of the Mediterranean. The small town of Collioure is near and so is the Spanish border. Around the year 1900 painters like Derain, Vlaminck, Matisse, Braque and Picasso used to meet and paint outside, in fact leaving The 'Ateliers' to be inspired outside by Nature.

The idea about direct contact with Nature, and leaving the confinement of an atekier or Studio. had become essential. Many intellectuals started to work and create directly outside, right into Nature. The writer Patrick O'Brian is even buried in the cemetery of Collioure!
