Etchings I printed in numbered editions on my press. Technics I learned from 3 American printmakers - Kraczyna, Luis Camnitzer (MoMA) and David Finkbeiner. Dust grain photogravure means photo-etching: it was invented mid 19th century by Henry Fox Talbot and Karl Klic.

On the ferry Genova-Piraeus I met Manrico Murzi, once a pupil of Giuseppe Ungaretti. He influenced my study in etching at American Highschool in Florence, Italy 1968-'72.

Quante lacrime ..

Quante lacrime sono nelle piante - le fa brillare il sole mentre le asciuga . So many tears are in plants - they shine while the sun is drying them

Giuseppe Ungaretti

Born in Alexandria in 1888, student at the Sorbonne, volunteer in the Army, poet and professor at Rome University, he died in Milan in 1970. Ungaretti was a source of inspiration for my etchings, expressing life and carry fruit yet ending in decay.

Bernard Berenson

American art historian, who left his library and Villa 'I Tatti' in Settignano-Florence to the Italian State. I studied at Villa Schifanoia in Fiesole from 1968-'70, then lived in Via S.Spirito 6 until 1972.

Plucked pigeon

I drew the dead bird with a greasy stick on a polished litho-stone, which damages the stone and bites out the image, printed only 10 prints on the litho-press with light pressure. A man prepared 2 stones before use, polishing them by grinding water with iron grit and turning the stones round and round, until they were again ready for use. This process make stones thinner and finally one has to throw them away.

Hanged - on 3 litho stones

I drew the dead birds with a greasy stick on 3 polished litho-stones. Then I prepared and inked them with a roller of 43cm in width, a heavy job, but a helper carried them onto the table of the press.

At the Royal Academy in Amsterdam I drew after life model with prof Gé Röling. Were masters of the 'Nude' like Modigliani or Annigni already known in those days?

Reclining woman

The model poses for a long time. Had anyone heard of the artist painter Modigliani, later known for his famous model-Jeanne Hébuterne?

Royal Academy of Amsterdam

At Mont-Parnasse in Paris, a pub called 'Bateau Lavoir' attracted around 1900 painters like Kees van Dongen and Picasso, but even Modigliani worked and exhibited there, all of them not even being french. see en.wikipedia Bateau-Lavoir. Gé Röling was my teacher at the  L'Académie d'Amsterdam avait des élèves comme Karel Appel et Piet Mondrian.
